OF CENTRAL TEXAS
What is Texas Holey Rock?
Texas Holey Rock comes from a limestone formation that was formed over the eons in a specific limited location in the Hill Country of central Texas. It is used as a decorative and active addition to aquariums to balance and maintain alkalinity levels while providing many crevices, holes, and caves that are favorite hiding places for fish and other wildlife.

Is Holey Rock a common item?
No. Not at all. Texas Holey Rock can only be found in certain sections of the Texas Hill Country, northwest of Austin, Texas. And the supply is limited because of the great amount of physical labor involved in harvesting, cleaning, and preparing the rock. At present Holey Rock is in very short supply at most retail shops and that influences pricing. We do have a constant proprietary supply on our ranch and work year round on this faction of our business.

How does Holey Rock balance alkalinity?
The limestone nature of Holey Rock allows very slow release of alkaline material into the aquarium water. Normal water changes and cleaning keep the buildup from becoming excessive.

Will Holey Rock kill off my tropical fish?
No. Texas Holey Rock is used in all types of aquariums, both fresh and saltwater. If your fish can withstand pH levels of between 7 and 8.5 they will not be affected. Of course this assumes regular cleaning and water changes.

Are all Holey Rocks the same?
Absolutely not. That is one of the attractive features of Holey Rock. Each rock has it's own hole pattern, hole size and shape, rock structure and basic rock color. Colors range from slightly gray to brilliant bone white, and many have faint color patterns running through them that are highlighted under aquarium lights.

Do you guarantee your Rocks?
We gurantee that our Texas Holey Rocks come from the central Texas Holey Rock fields on our own ranch, that they are officially classified as Texas Holey Rocks, that they are cleaned per standard cleaning practices, and that they are safe for your aquarium when properly cared for. We also guarantee that each Rock is as advertised.

Do you take special orders?
We do take special orders within limits. For example, if you have a specific size requirement, or desire more or less holes than the items we have for sale on our site, we will take special pains to find what you need. If we feel we have a match we will clean the Rock and send you a photo for approval. If you agree to purchase we will add a $10 special handling fee to our normal pricing. Please use the Special Request Form for this purpose.

We also take special orders for quantity. If you wish to purchase 10 or more rocks of random sizes we will offer you a discount based on your requirements. Please use our Special Request Form to make your requests.

Are there other uses for Texas Holey Rocks?
Sure! We have customers using them for terrariums, snake houses, fountains, waterfalls, table decorations, doorstops, planters, landscaping, and even jewelry (the smaller ones of course). And Texas Holey Rock has become an art form in many parts of the country. Because of the unusual creation method in nature, many Holey Rocks take on a resemblance to common items. This can be compared to cloud formations looking like animals or other objects. (When such a piece is found it is offered as a Decorative Rock and demands higher pricing.) Their use is only limited by your imagination.
